Living in Texas definitely has its perks but one of them is not the large variety of biting insects that inhabit it. Texas is home to 357 different insects. The mild temperatures of last winter provided an ideal climate for adult insects their eggs to survive. This year was one of the highest recorded seasons for fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes. Bed bugs have also been on a rise in the past several years. When signs of infestation are seen it is best to implement a 3- step approach, which means treating the pets, yard and home.

Two of the most common biting insects are fleas and ticks. Fleas are commonly found on animals and are known to rapidly breed in the fur. Fleas have an ideal living temperature of 65-85 degrees Fahrenheit with a humidity of 75-85 degrees but have the capability to endure outdoor temperatures that get as low as the 30’s. For flea control utilize flea rid shampoos. Medication also helps but over time, shampoo is instant when necessary. After you clean a pet it is important to also clean the bedding and/or kennel the pet has also. A little diatomaceous earth (the one labeled to be used around people and pets) can be lightly applied to fabrics the pet encounters. Flea pupae have the capability to do not complete full development, being capable of dormant stage until their emerging temperature is ideal.

Mosquitoes have a natural habitat that is commonly around some form of wetland where they survive and grow in hot, humid climate. They are typically found around stagnate waters were they lay eggs to being the larva’s water stage before going airborne. Biting insects like the mosquito are invasive to the body and create discomfort. An insect bite is most commonly observed as a raised red bump with possible stinging sensations, redness, and itchiness. Century Pest offers help with the 30 or 90 day Yard Defender service. This service is an exterior treatment with primary focus on relief from mosquitoes and other insects such as; ants, scorpions, fleas, cockroaches and a variety of other outdoor pest.

Invasion of the house can also create much discomfort. Insects like the bed bug are common and although they do not transfer disease to humans they are known to cause bites similar to that of a flea. Bed bugs hide in the crevices of mattresses, and are small in size, making it very hard to see them, which can then lead to a large infestation if it goes unnoticed.

With the Executive Century System, Century Pest can control the infestation of rapidly producing insects from your yard and interiors. This extensive package gives a perimeter boundary of up to 25 feet from the home foundation.
